What is marketing automation?

Marketing automation is all about using software to automate your marketing process. Using a marketing automation tool, you can target customers with automated messages across email, your website, social media and text (SMS). Messages are sent automatically, according to workflows (basically sets of instructions) that you define.

An example of a workflow might be:

Trigger: when a user adds a product to their cart but doesn’t complete a purchase
Action: Send an email reminding them to complete their purchase later 

Workflows often can be defined by templates, but they can also be custom-built from scratch.
